anything i can do to stop the progression of esotropia until i can get treatment?

From reading so far I have identified perhaps the best description of my situation is alternating esotropia with diplopia. Meaning, I can look straight with either eye, but the other will turn in. And I have double vision.  I do have a dominant eye, and I sometimes detect occlusion occurs, but this has started to happen only recently. When I read, it seems to occlude the weaker eye. But further distances: double.

I started to get worried when one of my sister's friends told me she had surgery to align her eyes when she was little, but she is essentially "blind" in that eye now. I've been sort of ignoring it, but hearing about Stereo Sue really has me wondering. Is there something I can do? I don't want it to get *worse*.

I never had surgery. I have had convergence problems since I was a kid. My mom had antique stereograms, and I never "got it". I could never see those 3D illusions which were so popular a few years back. I remember alternating blinking my eyes when I was little to see the corner of my ceiling "jump" and asking others if they saw the same. And as is typical, I was horrible at ball sports, awkward and this made me even more embarrassed. Eye doctors pretty much dismissed me when I said I had crossed eyes, because it was "obvious".

I have experienced stereoscopic vision. I have had it a few times in my life and it lasted for a few minutes. At the most recent time I attributed it to being tired, as much as I was in pure awe. Sometimes the eyes seem to "click" together. I just stand there and gawk at my hands as they move in space. I must look  kind of strange. Time sort of stops.

Frustratingly I've only now identified that my sight is getting worse recently, and having a huge effect on the biggest decisions I make. Thank the BBC for showing Stereo Sue I feel there may be hope?

My experience has been slowly closing my life into a little cave. I stopped driving 15 years ago, stopped biking 5 years ago. I don't feel safe even crossing the streets because I have trouble seeing what is where. I fell flat on my face tripping on a curb over a year ago. Now that it's recently becoming a cosmetic problem I'm becoming very self conscious and I think I look "stupid".  It is really so much more upsetting than I care to admit.

I was in a queue in the Republic of Ireland to see an Opthamologist... For over 6 months. But now I've moved to Northern Ireland and there's no vision therapists listed here at all. Some in England but that's pretty far.

I close my dominant eye for some reason when I need to see one thing. I think also due to my increasingly bad vision I'm making my situation worse. I now work from home - and at a computer with two screens for about 50-60 hours a week. Thankfully my cats ensure I'm looking away and walking around every hour (I'm also a cat butler).

When I've been very tired in the past and I've had trouble focusing I'd put a "patch" of paper over my left eye glasses, or over my dominant eye. Or worse, I just put my hand over my dominant eye and move closer to the screen. That seems to me to be odd behaviour.

I stopped doing that because I try to take a cue that I'm tired. And I take a break.

Is there anything at all I can do or stop doing to stave off this horrible progression??

I don't know when I'll be able to afford the cost and time to get vision therapy in another country.

I don't want to see my vision deteriorate further.

I would gladly wear a patch over my eye. I think looking like a pirate would be better than this double vision an sense of confusion.

Sorry for such a long post. I'm keen to connect to others in the same situation.
