Hi,

I read Susan Barry's book and I am uncertain about something...possibly I need to hear it from someone else.

Prior to Susan's experience was there a body of specialized optometrists using VT to correct stabismus?  How long has this been going on?

Prior to the dogma of the critical period, did Brock write about the process of correcting eyes that failed to sychronize?  yet this not gain currency over surgery?

When did VT become a form of treatment?

Yes, Lynn, optometrists have been treating stabismus non-surgically for about a hundred years.  Brock's work began in earnest in the 1930s.  There is a concise historical overview here.

I wrote answers to some FAQs about VThere.

Dr. Press,

Thank you for this information I am eager to learn more.  I can't seem to get over that this treatment was available when I was young and thus there wasno need for me to go through the surgeries.  I am feeling as if the biomedical system has let me down.  This feeling is far from a pleasant.

Lynn

Hi Dr. Press,

I read those two sources - thanks for helping me narrow down what to read.

Can you please tell me - when did vision therapy become a common practice in addressing stabismus?

Also, today, is vision therapy more common in the US than in Canada?
