Amber Johnson replied to Robin Benoit's discussion Is it ADHD or a Vision Problem? in the group Team Jillian: Advocacy Group for Patients and Parents
"Wow, Robin! That's crazy! Because most kids who get labeled as inattentive wind up on the ADHD track, they are never tested for vision problems. So how could anyone argue with the idea that children with ADHD-like behavior/struggles receive…"

Anisometropic amblyopia... how to help my little Stella.

My daughter Stella will be 3 in August. We've been doing vision therapy for maybe 8 months, and patching for 9 months. A recent check-up with her ophthalmologist showed notably improved stereoscopy, but  her acuity is still 20/40 in her left eye and 20/30 in her right eye. So, according to them, her acuity has not changed at all over the past year. (She started wearing glasses in April 2010 for farsightedness, and they keep her eyes straight. So anisometropia entailing one diopter difference…See More

"Hi Amber, The answer to whether to break it up largely depends on how Stella is handling occlusion therapy and what she is doing while she is "patched". If she can tolerate patching then going straight through is acceptable, however, it is…"

Quick patching question

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it's okay to break up patching into a couple chunks of time or if it's better to patch in one big stretch each day. Currently, my two-year-old Stella patches for two hours a day. We usually do it all in the morning, but not always. Thanks!

"We are doing vision therapy with our two-year-old, which has helped her vision in many ways.   And for patching, I set a timer and tell her that she can take the patch off when the timer goes off. That seems to help a lot, probably because it…"
