"Thanks for this. So far I have had the most success with the "S" shape consisting of black circles with orange shapes going up the left side and blue shapes going up the right side of the "S." I really appreciate you…"
"I just wanted to share an update about my "inefficient" pencil grasp that I wrote about before. All my life I have used a grasp that is described as a "thumb wrap," where the thumb wraps around the pencil over the index…"
"I know exactly what you mean about finding it fascinating if you are thinking about it in theory or in relation to some other person's story, but kind of freaky when it applies to yourself. I think we all want to believe that the reason…"
That sounds awful, I would have been so frightened to need to drive with an eye closed. Obviously Sears Optical has done a terrible job for you. That said, I doubt very much that you will succeed in getting them to pay for…"
"Wow, I am fascinated by all these stories about posture and balance in relation to strabismus. I also had to wear corrective shoes overnight for a while when I had pigeon toes in my chldhood. I recently got fitted with orthotics by a podiatrist that…"
"Hi Felicity, thanks for sharing this.I checked my grip, and it's quite normal. However I still slouch too closely to my writing surface, just like I did in childhood homework photos. This may have more to do with my refusal to wear my glasses…"
My response is similar to Nikki's. I don't know that I had a problem gripping my pencil, but through VT I have discovered why my posture was always bad. My left eye is the lazy one. Several months ago my VT had me stand on two…"
"I was trying to edit my comment and ran out of time. I meant to say your comment about your right foot and Nikki's comment about posture were interesting. When I first started having vision improvements I realized I could stand…"
"Yes, the focus of therapy is the same for me. The slant board is just a tool for use at home. I had to go back through my papers and found the explanation that came with it - reading and writing at a certain angle is better for the eyes…"
"Hi Greg - I have had a similar experience to you. I've always struggled to catch a ball and squash was a complete joke. I've had 20 or so VT sessions and managed at last to get visual alignment and sort of know when I'm seeing with 2…"
I haven't experienced difficulties with my pen grip but I can definitely associate with your postural issue. I have always walked strangely, apparently, but I put it down to the way my body is built, not down to bad habits that I…"
"Did you get a slant board when you started VT? They are given at the office where I do therapy. The company is called Visual Edge. My son also did VT for a form of strabismus (accommodative esotropia). Once my doctor told me…"
"Thanks for the reply Robyn, yes I definitely am starting to put the pieces together about what aspects of my life could be connected to strabismus beyond my challenges with fusing/depth perception etc. I think my handwriting is OK but not…"
"I do have an awkward pencil grip, though my thumb does not wrap. I was corrected by teachers very often in early elementary school, but I never really got the hang of it. I just had a VT appt. today and felt a little embarrassed, as usual, turning…"
Hi Felicity, I have been in VT for one year. I too have one dominant eye and one very suppressed eye. Don't worry too much about seeing double. I can fuse at close distances, but I don't see double unless I am doing some exercises where I should be seeing double. It was a couple of months before I was ready for the Brock string. Then once I started working with it, a few more months before I got total fusion. Sometimes now I get a little frustrated and think I'm not making much progress. Then I look back at what I have accomplished in the last year. :) Also, after about 5 months my VT prescribed glasses with prisms. This helps to overcome the vertical misalignment of the eyes. I think she was waiting to make sure I could progress with the therapy before prescribing these. Good luck and hang in there!
