I finished my 9th session of vision therapy last week. I have been working on my eye exercises daily. It is easier on the weekends to get in two sessions per day, harder to do two during the work…Continue

"It is easier for me to use both eyes close up, but I am not able to do it as well at distances. My eyes now appear straight most of the time, but I have to consciously think about using both eyes. I haven't really developed full fusion and…"

Kathe Rowe replied to Rosemary Lodge's discussion New here! in the group Adult Strabismic Patients' Forum
"Yes, exactly. When I first started VT, my optometrist said that my lazy eye barely even moved, so I had major suppression. I did not see depth at all and had a hard time judging distances. My progress has been very slow, but I do have progress. As…"

Kathe Rowe replied to Rosemary Lodge's discussion New here! in the group Adult Strabismic Patients' Forum
"Welcome Rosemary! Before I started VT I did some patching of my dominant eye to try and strengthen my lazy eye. I think if did help some. A few months in to VT, after I started being able to see depth, I stopped patching. My optometrist told me at…"

"Throught VT I didn't have to wear prisms in my glasses. Decades ago, right out of college (when my strabismus was re-diagnosed as an adult), an optometrist gave me a prism in my glasses that helped reduce stain and headaches. For years, with…"

Greg Voth replied to Kathe Rowe's discussion Lifesaver Card in the group Adult Strabismic Patients' Forum
"The lifesaver card is hard for me when converging but not diverging. Perhaps it's because of my 60 year old eyes, but I have a hard time seeing the lettering on the card so I don't get all the cues and virtual images created."

Lifesaver Card

I've been working on the lifesaver card for several months now. I am able to fuse and get a virtual image in the middle, but the image is green, not a mixture of red and green. Also instead of seeing the letter E on the virtual image, I just see an L. The back of the card says this means the center of my left eye is not seeing. Has anyone else experienced this, and were you able to get past it and totally fuse the red and green circles?See More

Kathe Rowe replied to Susanna Z's discussion ASAP: Which labs are reliable to make prism lenses and how do you get reimbursed for defective lenses? in the group Adult Strabismic Patients' Forum

New to VT

I am glad to find this group! Like many of you, I heard about Sue Barry's book on NPR. I was very intrigued and eventually bought and read her book. I knew if I started Vision Therapy, it would take some time and dedication. I found an optometrist and began VT in May of this year. Sue, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I always knew I had problems with depth perception, but really had no idea that other people were seeing the world in 3D and what that meant.

For my story,…

Hi, Kathy, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. As far as the brock string goes, I've actually not done training with that, but my vision therapist Dr. Hillier has used other methods, such as pulling items very close to my face and further away. My insight probably wont help much, as I've never had a problem with it. Pulling items close to me and focusing has always been easy, it's when they're further away that it's a challenge. When I started, I suppose I overly-converged, causing my eyes to go slightly crossed, but the further I pull away an item away from my face while they're in alignment, the more "normal" they appear. The best thing you can possibly do is try to hold on to that feeling of your eyes converged, even if they seem overly so. Then pull the item slightly away and try to make it one image. I'd also try it with pen tips, remotes, or any item where you can focus very hard, to vary it up a bit. Also, if you try to focus on one particular thing, such as a spec of dust or a particular detail, it can be even more beneficial.
