I finished my 9th session of vision therapy last week. I have been working on my eye exercises daily. It is easier on the weekends to get in two sessions per day, harder to do two during the work…Continue

:Lynn, I would certainly get direction from an optometrist trained in VT, but here is something I can share with you. Once I got evaluated by my optometrist, there was a waiting period of two months before she could get a consistent appointment for…

After reading for a while nonstop, my vision gets blurry and I have to take a break. I teach at a community college. If I grade too many papers nonstop, same thing happens. It can sometimes take 20-30 minutes for my vision to get back to normal.

Hi Lynn, I'm not certain what my uncorrected vision used to be in my lazy eye, but I know it could only be corrected to 20/50 with glasses.  I did not alternate the use of my eyes, I had and still have a dominant eye. I started out as an…

Susan, Congrats on the step down on your prisms! I just got 5 diopters in my glasses before thanksgiving (never had prisms before). It has made a huge difference in being able to start fusing images.

Welcome Jo! You will love reading Sue's book. I have been going to weekly VT appointments since May 2011. I do not have full stereo vision yet, but have noticed improvement in my vision overall.

Greg, Congratulations, sounds like you are doing great! I just got the lifesaver card from my VT last week, and I am not able to do it either. I'm not surprised about Sue's comments regarding daily exercise of some type. I'm already…

Traci, I probably don't have too much info to help you, but I'll just add to the discussion. Once I found a VT, she wanted to wait to start working with me until after she attended a conference, and had an open appointment that would work…

Anna, I also have exotropia. I actually started out as an esotrope, but due to surgery, my eye eventually drifted outward. I'm wondering how you managed to conquer the brock string? I am having difficulty. When I try to look at the bead close…

Hi Anna, Congratulations on your progress and thanks for sharing your story and pictures. You will love reading Sue Barry's book. It helped me to understand why I was never good at catching a ball, things like spotting a bird up in a tree, etc.…

New to VT

I am glad to find this group! Like many of you, I heard about Sue Barry's book on NPR. I was very intrigued and eventually bought and read her book. I knew if I started Vision Therapy, it would take some time and dedication. I found an optometrist and began VT in May of this year. Sue, thank you so much for sharing your experience. I always knew I had problems with depth perception, but really had no idea that other people were seeing the world in 3D and what that meant.

For my story,…

Hi, Kathy, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. As far as the brock string goes, I've actually not done training with that, but my vision therapist Dr. Hillier has used other methods, such as pulling items very close to my face and further away. My insight probably wont help much, as I've never had a problem with it. Pulling items close to me and focusing has always been easy, it's when they're further away that it's a challenge. When I started, I suppose I overly-converged, causing my eyes to go slightly crossed, but the further I pull away an item away from my face while they're in alignment, the more "normal" they appear. The best thing you can possibly do is try to hold on to that feeling of your eyes converged, even if they seem overly so. Then pull the item slightly away and try to make it one image. I'd also try it with pen tips, remotes, or any item where you can focus very hard, to vary it up a bit. Also, if you try to focus on one particular thing, such as a spec of dust or a particular detail, it can be even more beneficial.
