Morgen Peck's article for BBC on stereo blindness and 3D movies

Morgen Peck just made a post on Sovoto's main discussion board that may not be emailed out to Sovoto followers. I was really delighted to see an article about Strabismus when I opened the bbc website, a headline no less.http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20120719-awoken-from-a-2d-world/1 See More

Nikki Lichtner commented on Morgen Peck's blog post BBC Future - 3D movies as vision therapy
"Great to see a story about Strabismus appear on the BBC website headlines. I don't think it's a coincidence that both Sue Barry and Bruce Bridgeman are neuroscientists. I believe that having a good understanding of the vision and…"

VT text book?

Gradually my eye sight seems to be improving. However, there are many cases of 1 step forward, 2 steps back and very often I find that my significant steps forward are when I have an "aha" moment and finally understand what a partiucular exercise is about and what it is trying to achieve. That's usually after having spent a month trying to figure it out. If only there were a text book to accompany the vision training. I am definitely one of those people who needs to be convinced by something…See More

About
Hello!
I had 2 operations as a child to cosmetically straighten my eyes. I only ever remember having straight eyes. However, 4 years ago I caught my first child's flailing finger in my good eye and lost a sizable chunk from it. The eye recovered, but I was left with a wonky left eye. My Mum has strabismus too and has never minded wonky eyes, but I think its different when it happens later in life. Also my general eye sight seemed to deteriorate after the injury too and I needed to wear glasses all the time.
This is when I started finding out about vision therapy. First of all I thought it would be something you could only find in the States or Europe, but unlikely in NZ. However, after a quick google, I discovered there was a vision therapist 20 minutes walk from my house, so the training began.
I am loving the training. I dispair from time to time and wonder whether its worth the trouble, but mostly I feel really upbeat about it. I love finding new ways of using these eyes of mine. Recently, I have been learning to converge and diverge on demand and, after 4 years of wonky eyes, they are pretty straight now. I have had eleven training sessions and still have a fair way to go before I can even attempt to put the images from my two eyes together, but its all progressing fairly steadily.
I often wonder about stuff and have loads of questions that would be better answered by fellow trainees rather than trainers. This is a really great site with loads of really helpful threads.
