Yes, I remember the post about Keira Knightley and her divergent eyes. I've done many TV interviews with my contacts but the camera was usually never pointed just at me as I was in an interview with someone else. But with my looking at the…

Dear Hohendorf, Thanks for these excellent points. Yes, you are right. My paranoia or stress about my eye turn may make the situation more tense for me and it's best to focus on my topics. The good thing is that I'm the one writing the…

Hi Susanna,     I have done TV spots where the hosts used teleprompters, so I cannot attest to the difficulty. I do know if it is too small it can be a problem and if too large it presents another problem. Make sure you get to…

How to read from a teleprompter

Thumbnail
Has anyone had to read on TV from a teleprompter? I need some advice, especially from those in VT who know what it means when your eyes play tricks on you.I will be doing some segments on Spanish language TV and I have to read from a teleprompter, in Spanish. If the text is moving, I probably won't see in double (when I look at anything for a while, it goes double or vibrates), but I am concerned that it will be hard for me to follow and may be obvious to the viewer that my eyes are not…See More

I'm almost 35. So I don't think my language confusion is age related. My specialty is language education so my lapses can be quite embarrassing!

I find I am dropping nouns.  This is think is age related.   Could your linguistic confusion be age related?

I speak seven languages. Russian is my first language. Despite English being my strongest language, for the past 13-14 months, I sometimes stall when speaking in English as Russian words come to mind. I can only attribute this language confusion to…

Susan, Congrats on the step down on your prisms! I just got 5 diopters in my glasses before thanksgiving (never had prisms before). It has made a huge difference in being able to start fusing images.

Yeah, the double vision is still there if I spend too much time looking at one thing. Sometimes I have to tell people that I move around a lot when I am sitting in order to keep my world from going double. Otherwise it looks like I need to go to the…

Tips for adults just starting binocular vision therapy or thinking of doing it.

Thumbnail
I am almost two years into vision therapy (VT) and have various suggestions to share with those who are considering traveling the road to 3D vision or have recently begun. Although I am no poster child for VT and have struggled greatly with its side effects, I am writing this to help others avoid the pitfalls that caused me much psychological pain in the past two years. I wish I’d known these tips before I began. Consider this as my gift during the holiday season. 1. Give up control of your…See More

The very fact that ARC can be called horror fusion's, surely suggests a strong emotional component to not want to see in an integrated way for a very good survival reason. I have had cases where we were very close to reaching NRC, and the…

I did try this.....had one session and honestly wasn't aware of any changes. My optometrist really encourages this, but I wasn't comfortable with the procedure--either the practioner or the process, I don't know. I elected to just…

About
34 year old strabismic in vision therapy for 15 months to develop binocular vision. This is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life! Even living in post-war Bosnia with carcasses of buildings around and landmines was easier than this. But I'm committed to seeing in 3D.

I was born in the former USSR with strabsimus and was sent to a preschool for retarded kids because I looked so different. I had my first surgery to straighten my eyes when I was 3 when I came to the US. That operation left me with a wandering eye. Then at 17, I had another surgery to cosmetically straighten my eyes.

When I read "Stereo Sue" in the New Yorker in 2006, my life literally turned upside down. I had no idea that I saw in 2D. No clue whatsoever. It took me several years before I decided to do vision therapy to develop binocular vision. I've traveled to over 50 countries and lived in 9, this journey into my brain is by far the most difficult one I've ever been on.

If our brain is a neural Parliament then no wonder brains on vision therapy are so confused!

I just saw this interview that Stephen Colbert did of neuroscientist David Eagleman on the Colbert Report.

Neuroscientist David Eagleman likens the brain to a neural Parliament with different political parties that are battling it out to steer the ship of state.

If a normal brain, pre-vision therapy, is already arguing like parliamentarians, then it's no wonder than those of us in vision therapy to develop binocular vision experience many moments of confusion. All those…

Brain rewiring with music, Gabrielle Gifford

For those of us who have struggled with our brain's rewiring via vision therapy, watch ABC’s Nightline special on Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford’s incredible progress using melodic intonation therapy to regain speech after a bullet passed through the left side of her brain, causing her to lose expressive speech.

Meeting Anna K, another post-surgical strabismic doing vision therapy

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting Anna K. in Berkeley for four hours of a heart-to-heart conversation about life as a strabismic doing VT. I finally found someone with whom I could walk and stare at trees and comment on how they looked.

I've been doing VT since January 2010 and although I'm lucky to have three friends who have done VT in the past (for various reasons), I have not met any adult in person who totally gets where I am, why I get so tired, why I get mood,…

Ascension from paralysis

As the words of my 11th opinion sunk in, I realized that no one knows when I’ll be done with this and when I will get over my horror fusionis, develop central fusion and be on my merry way. The original thought was that my therapy would be done in a year. It’s been a year and nine months with a six week break during the summer of 2010.

I can’t continue delaying what I want to do in my life because of the side effects of binocular vision therapy. Part of my frustration… Continue
